Pull out one of your favorite ads for your business.

Cut out a piece of white paper that fits the space where your company name is in the ads.

Show the ad to ANYONE. Ask them what company the ad is for.

Bonus test, in case you don’t believe the first one: Write your competitor’s name on the white paper that’s on your ad.

Show the ad to ANYONE and wait for their reaction.

If they don’t say anything, or their reply is “Eh? So what?” (or similar), ask them if the ad is just as effective with any competitor’s name on it.

If they don’t react that it could only be an ad for your company, it might just be time to fix the ad.

Past time, really, but now is better than tomorrow.
