"My staff was the bread and butter of the business." Often times people do not realize this, and do not treat employees in a correct manner. For example, my brother in law works for an environmental agency that analyzes air quality. There are only 6-7 workers, and the business recently got bought out. Of course the new owner did not know how to run the business, and just starting slashing "costs" like employee benefits, bonuses, etc. A couple of the employees left. My brother in law told me that the employees were the business, and without them, all the owner had was a client list.
