I do have backups and a second host (actually 3 given some varrying requirements). Over the years I have had good hosts and then after a while they get worse. So a big part of the reason I have more than 1 is I want to be ready if the host's service declines. But the redundancy is also a factor - if you don't have an account in place finding a new host and getting everything setup is not a quick process, usually. And doing that in a hurry may well result in you picking a host that really isn't great and you have to deal with that.

Yea that whole thing at the planet was crazy! These things are rare, in which case a smart person will always make their own backups.
